#3 GERAÇÕES
GERAÇÕES is the theme of Festival Contrapeso 2023 which, later this autumn – almost winter, will once again sweep through Loulé with a line-up of theatre, jazz, disciplinary crossings and various mediation activities, such as workshops and masterclasses. In this third edition, which takes place from the 30th of November to the 3rd of December, the festival organised by Mákina de Cena will once again venture into various venues in Loulé (Cineteatro Louletano, Auditório do Solar da Música Nova, Casa da Mákina, Tempo das Artes, Palácio Gama Lobo, Conservatório de Música de Loulé), with a diverse programme covering different audiences and themes, from emigration – narrated by four clowns –, to euthanasia or gypsyphobia, and from revisiting iconic jazz musicians to creating original music from poetry.
Festival
Festival Contrapeso is a Mákina de Cena initiative, which had its first edition in 2021, with a programme dedicated to national theatre and music solos, featuring the Co. João Garcia Miguel, Mário Delgado, Carlos Barretto, among others; and went international in 2022, under the motto From Paris with Love, with prestigious participations such as the Co. Plexus Polaire, The Latebloomers, or the Antoine Karacostas Quartet.
Held annually, this festival was born out of a desire to balance, in a pertinent way, the municipal and regional programme logic, which is traditionally seasonal (beach season). Towards the end of autumn, and already welcoming winter, we want to help make Loulé just as attractive, with an independent and distinctive artistic and cultural offer, fostering the development and retention of different audiences.
Over the course of four days at the beginning of December, we offer a mixed programme of theatre and jazz, the cornerstones of Mákina de Cena's work, subject to different themes in each edition, with both emerging and established artists in their disciplines.
ProgramME
Theatrical proposals such as Adiante, an international co-production between Cia. A Nariguda, LUME Teatro and Lua Cheia; Homo Sacer, a new creation by Bestiário with Maria Gil, O Infinito Estrangeiro by Oficina de Ideias das Terras do Oeste, or Dentro³ by Ana Catarina Santos and Sílvio Vieira / outro; Selvagem - a show by Mákina de Cena that combines the poetry of Salvador Santos with the compositions of Marco Martins, with the participation, among others, of João Paulo Esteves da Silva and Alexandre Frazão; the solo concert by João Barradas, and The Mingus Project, led by bassist Nelson Cascais; in four days of CONTRAPESO, which you certainly won't want to miss.
